Home Depot Breach: SilverSky Analyst Roundtable
Late last week, it was reported that Home Depot was the latest retail giant to fall victim to a massive credit card breach. Brian Krebs broke the story on Krebs on Security, suggesting the transactions from more than 1,700 stores had been compromised for many months. Home Depot was slow to confirm and only said that it had been comprised and that the investigation was ongoing. Finally, in the afternoon on Monday, September 8, Home Depot released a statement confirming that its payment systems had been hacked in a data breach that could affect millions of shoppers who used credit and debit cards at its more than 2,000 U.S. and Canadian stores as far back as April 2014. This breach could surpass the 40 million accounts stolen from other retail giant Target in December 2013.
